No entry can be sold for consumption after judging due to food safety regulations
Donations are always welcome and spectators who wish to take tasting samples may do so at their own risk.
Judging (see chart below)
To maintain anonymity, judges will be brought in only when all entries are in. No late entries will be permitted once judging has begun
Please note that the pie judging occurs in two rounds. The first round is to select the winners in each category (single crust, two-crust, and tart). The second round is similar to a playoff round in which the 9 winners are then considered by the judges for the BEST-IN-SHOW prize.
Entry Process Rules- IMPORTANT!
1. Pies will not be accepted before the start time of 12 noon. No late entries accepted 20 minutes after the start time. That gives entrants a 20-minute window to deliver their pie for judging.
2. Please plan accordingly, particularly if your pie is susceptible to melting.
3. If your pie is submitted after 12:20 pm, it will be automatically disqualified from judging. The pie, however, will still be served and shared with SBD neighbors even if it is not judged.
4. All pies are photographed at the time of entry. Please remember to bring your card with both your number and the name of your pie written clearly on it. This card will be placed next to your pie as part of the photograph
5. Judges will refer to the photographs of the pies throughout the judging, so the the photos are taken at the moment of entry to ensure maximum beauty
6. Judges will not be facing the pie entry area. No one (except the pie runners) are to speak to or interact with the judges during the judging period.
7. Only until all judges have been served a piece of each pie will the pies then be cut up and served to the SBD community.
8. Pies are served by designated SBD volunteers/runners and we ask that the public do not serve themselves.
9. Please be courteous to your neighbors and return for additional pie rather than take as much as you can in the first go-around.
10. Category winners will be announced at the end of the judging. Best in show/Judge's choice will be announced at the SBD Awards Ceremony on Sunday evening. A special prize will be awarded to the Best in Show/Judge's Choice Pie
